What I have learnt about fertility from my inspirational clients
- Elena Mary
- Fertility
My very first fertility client came to me before I had any training in fertility or women's health.
She told me that she would prefer to see me because she just wanted to be able to relax and not talk about fertility. Sometimes the medical world can feel so clinical and she wanted to be able to switch off. So we focused simply on supporting her and her body and what she needed in each moment while she was waiting to start her medical treatment.
Looking back, I realise that as we were not specifically thinking about fertility, she gave me permission to follow my intuition and the ability to listen to exactly what her body needed. Our sessions were not focusing on balancing hormones or even just about managing stress but about asking the body what it needed in each session and therefore healing on all levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
Just before she was due to start her treatment she became pregnant naturally, although she hadn't thought that this was possible.
This made me reflect alot on this label of unexplained infertility....
According to the NICE guidelines, unexplained infertility simply means that no reason has been found for your fertility problems, but they also state that complementary therapies are not recommended, because there hasn't been enough research looking at whether they improve fertility.
I wondered if perhaps there was more research into the things that we support clients with in complementary therapy, whether we could avoid simply giving a label that can feel disempowering and bring about a loss of trust and faith in the body.
My time as a nurse has made me really passionate about avoiding labels, listening to the body and looking at health more holistically. So this whole experience led me to training further in fertility and learning more about complementary therapies, ways that we can support fertility and how I might be able to help more of my clients take a more holistic approach.
Some of the ways that I can now support my clients are:
Cyclical wisdom and cycle tracking
Diet
Detoxification
Abdominal massage and castor oil packs
Womb connection and healing
Nervous system regulation and stress reduction
Emotional release, EFT and energy healing
Mindset work and visualisation
Reflexology for hormone balance and relaxation
However, I still am guided by my very first client because I realise that, as with all health, we are multidimensional beings and so one size doesn't always fit all.
I believe that taking a purely holistic approach means that we are able to look at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, focusing on what feels right to us in each moment. And that often if we are able to deeply listen to the body, we will know what it is that we need most in each moment. So these are all simply tools that we can work with based on what you feel you most need.
Many of my clients have come to me thinking there is something 'wrong' with them or that they are behind, but what I have seen in my clients is the devotion and love that they feel guiding them to heal on a deeper level in preparation for becoming a parent. This has also been an inspiration to me, and often I feel a lot of support from spirit in these sessions.
I am aware now, although I wasn't when I first became a parent, of all that we can do to support and connect with our children way before conception, how we can support the body in order to conceive but also the deep soul work that we can do to support ourselves on our journey to becoming a parent and all that this brings.
I offer online and in person sessions for support with fertility or conscious conception, and if you'd like to know more or see if I'm the right person to support you then you are welcome to book a free discovery call
Here I talk a little more about my journey to supporting clients with fertility and how I can support you.
